VET in Schools Program (VETiS)
In Queensland, high school students can complete nationally recognised vocational education and training (VET) as part of their school studies.
Students can undertake VET at school:
- As part of their school studies – delivered and resourced by a school that is also a registered training organisation (RTO)
- By enrolling in a qualification with an external RTO, such as CSTC
- This may be Department-funded (using VETiS Funding) or through fee-for-service arrangements (i.e. where the student or parent pays for the qualification)
- As a school-based apprentice or trainee (SAT)

To be eligible for VETiS General Training Pathway Funding, prospective students must:
- Be enrolled at a Queensland school in year 10, 11 or 12 (excluding international secondary exchange students) – or attending a Queensland juvenile detention centre
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or hold an eligible visa
- Not have accessed a subsidised training place under VETiS previously – either:
- A Certificate I or II qualification under a general training pathway; or
- A Certificate II or III school based apprenticeship/traineeship (SAT)
- Have a genuine interest in pursuing a post-school vocational occupation
Fees
School students do not have to pay any student or co-contribution fees for the VETiS program. When a SAT converts to full-time or part-time apprenticeship or traineeship, co-contributions may be charged for training and assessment for any units of competency not yet commenced.
Impact of accessing funding
Accessing a qualification funded under VETiS exhausts your entitlement to VETiS funding. Nevertheless, participation in VETiS does not affect a student’s access to subsidised training post-school through Career Start – even if the student has completed a Certificate III level qualification at school.

AHC20422 Certificate II in Horticulture
This qualification describes the skills and knowledge for a range of entry level horticulture job roles. Individuals with this qualification carry out routine tasks under supervision where the work is predictable and structured with limited judgement requirements. The qualification is suited to VET programs delivered to secondary school students or learners with no previous connection to the horticulture industry or relevant employment history. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include Horticulture worker or Horticulture assistant.
CPC10120 Certificate I in Construction
This qualification provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. The units of competency cover essential work health and safety requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials. The qualification is built around a basic construction project unit that integrates the skills and embeds the facets of employability skills in context.
CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways
This qualification reflects the roles of individuals working in the resources and infrastructure industries who perform mainly routine tasks and procedures, using limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge, and taking some responsibility for the quality of the work outcomes.
