Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos containing materials (ACM) were used in the construction of many Queensland buildings before 1990. Exposure to ACM may result in lung cancer, mesothelioma,asbestosis or plural plaques. It is important for workers who may be exposed to ACM to understand the risks associated with exposure to asbestos, how to identify and report possible ACM and which persons may legally undertake removal of the ACM.  ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no pre-requisites for attending this session, however basic English language skills are recommended.  DELIVERY This session is delivered over two (2) hours in a face-to-face classroom setting. COURSE OBJECTIVES It is expected that participants will gain knowledge and understanding of the following areas: What asbestos is The different forms of asbestos Asbestos-related health risks Legislative requirements relating to asbestos Working safely around areas where ACM are present Emergency procedures for dealing with asbestos incidents    ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS Participants will be required to successfully complete a short knowledge exam.
