Scaffolding is the temporary framework used to support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings and other large structures. It is usually a modular system of metal pipes or formed steel. A scaffolder should be able to plan and prepare for work, erect scaffolding/equipment safely, inspect/repair/alter scaffolding/equipment, and dismantle scaffolding/equipment safely.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no entry requirements for this course. To be eligible for a traineeship, applicants must:
- Be at least 15 years of age
- Have completed Year 10
- Be employed in the scaffolding field of the building and construction industry
DELIVERY
This qualification can be delivered in the following ways:
- Face-to-Face Delivery
- Where this course is undertaken as traineeship, face-to-face off-the-job training will likely occur through day release, which will supplement the on-the-job training provided by the employer. Traineeships are generally completed within two (2) years for full-time trainees and over four (4) years for school-based trainees.
- Classroom training is also available for non-trainees. The qualification is offered over 1-2 years, with variance for practical training availability.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Gap Training
- Students’ existing skills and knowledge are considered against course requirements. Examples of evidence collected include:
- Direct evidence – such as samples of work, photos, video, references
- Indirect evidence – such as awards, resumes, workplace memos/letters
- Historical evidence – such as past employer references, logbooks
- Evidence is evaluated and gaps in students’ knowledge and skills are determined so that training and assessment can be organised. Where entire units are to be assessed in full, students are given access to an external online learning program to complete.
- Where RPL is requested, students are supplied with an RPL application upon enrolment
- Students’ existing skills and knowledge are considered against course requirements. Examples of evidence collected include:

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Participants will be required to successfully complete a series of assessment tasks which may include a written exam, practical demonstration / observation, case studies, assignments and group activities.
