How to undertake a Traineeship / Apprenticeship
Step 1. You MUST be employed in the field you wish to gain the qualification
Step 2. You will need to discuss the possibility of you doing a traineeship or apprenticeship with your employer and they need to agree
Step 3. The Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) will need to be contacted e.g MEGT or Busy at Work etc. registering your details with Department of Employment and Training
Step 4. An appointment time will need to be made with the AAC, the trainee and the employer to sign a contract for the qualification you are registering for and a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will need to be chosen for the delivery of the knowledge and skills components of the qualification. The RTO will be CSTC.
Step 5. A contract will need to be signed between the employer, the trainee and the RTO – CSTC and a training plan developed so all parties are notified about competencies that make up the qualification and the withdrawal periods from work.
Step 6. A training plan is decided on with chosen electives and commencement of face-to-face training begins according to the plan.
Step 7. General Construction traineeships are of a two year duration – this is competency based training so it is possible to complete within this time. Civil traineeships/apprenticeships are of a three year duration also competency based and can be finished within that time frame.
Step 8. Upon completion of the qualification the trainee or apprentice will be issued a Certificate in the chosen qualification and a Statement of Attainment of each completed unit will be issued. The Department of Employment and Training will be notified of completion.
Government funding and incentives are available to successful applicants.
