This course intends to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively respond to emergency situations by sustaining and/or restoring breathing and circulation to an adult, child or infant and providing first aid management in life threatening emergencies.

Entry Requirements
Participants must:
Be at least 14 years of age or older (students under 14 years must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian); and
Have at least a year 8 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills.

Delivery
This course is delivered and assessed throughout a one (1) day face-to-face classroom session.  Upon enrolment participants will be provided an online login to complete a pre-assessment. Upon completion of the pre- assessment students will be issued a certificate of achievement electronically. This certificate is to be brought to the classroom session.

Units of Competency
HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID002 Provide emergency life support
HLTAID003 Provide first aid

Outcomes
It is expected that participants should be able to:
Respond to life threatening emergency situations
Call for medical assistance and provide effective first aid management before the arrival of ambulance or other assistance
Perform effective resuscitation
Look after an unconscious victim
Apply appropriate first aid procedures
Communicate details of incident

Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a Statement of Attainment in the above-mentioned units of competency.


Assessment Requirements
Participants will be required to successfully complete a series of assessment tasks which will include online questions.

Additional Information
The award issued for completion of this course is valid for three (3) years from the date of course completion.  The individual competency of HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is valid for one (1) year from the date of course completion.

    This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs.

    This qualification provides an occupational outcome in floriculture.
